ANOTHER YEAR, ANOTHER RESOLUTION

I can't believe its been a whole year since I last updated my blog. Somehow life gets a hold of me and I am pulled in by schedules, appointments, & commitments. A new year brings new hope, and new opportunity to prioritize these commitments and focus on what really matters. Here are my hopes and dreams for 2012. I read some where you are more likely to follow through if you share them with others, so here goes!

Love my family & friends unconditionally, despite faults and shortcomings. Having them around, crazy and all, is better than not having them at all!

Get back into a TRI-suit I wore for a triathlon I participated in about 5 years ago. I registered for a triathlon on MARCH 11, exactly 2 months from today. Of course this mean I will require a strict regimen of diet & exercise. I will swim 300 meters, bike 14miles, and then run 2. I can't wait for this!!!

FILING FRIDAYS: By Friday of every week, I will FILE ALL paper work & mail. No massive piles will be sitting around for weeks on end. (This will be harder than the triathlon!!!)

Be a better mom, a have a short fuse and I can go from MOM of the YEAR to MOMMY DEAREST pronto. I need to find a happy middle ground.

Jayda is my beautiful niece who needed the perfect outfit to capture her bright spirit! ! It's easy to see she is a natural with the camera. Jayda's outfit was a custom creation for this photo session. The bright teal tutu is layers and layers of fluff & sparkle! Paired with a black tank and coordinating floral embellishments. Running has been a passion of mine for several years. I started running after the birth of my third child. I began with local 10ks, then a couple half marathons, and even a couple sprint triathlons. I am by no means fast or super fit, but I love the challange of the competition. I love having a goal and going after it.

Nov 14, I ran my first FULL MARATHON with my best friend and running partner Yvett! I have to say it was one of the best experiences of my life. I was blessed to share the day with my family who was there to cheer me on during this special day. I feel so thankful that I was able to train and finish with out injury. Now I look forward to doing it again next year!!

Now that my marathon training days are behind me (for now), I turn my focus back to Joy Marie's Boutique, another beloved passion. I am currently hard at work preparing for Dias Festivos Marketplace in McAllen, Texas the first weekend in December.

Need prayer warriors to pray for my Aunt Connie!

My beloved Aunt Connie has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of stomach cancer (Stage 3). She has begun chemo and is bravely battling her illness. She continues to work full time during her chemo treatments and may face surgery in the future.

Aunt Connie, has a very special place in our family because she is my mothers only sister. Unfortunately she lives 4 hours away from us and we aren't able to be there everyday to help in her battle. God is so amazing! A few months ago my sister Yoli's job was relocated to New Braunfels about 20 minutes away from Aunt Connie. I think He had it all in the works as they have been able to spend many weekends bonding, antiquing, garage sale hunting, and eating at Panchito's in San Antonio. I am so grateful that God has placed the two of them together as they take this journey.

I am asking for prayer warriors out there to pray for this wonderful lady. She faces a battle and I believe that through prayer she will be healed!

A night with my "Sucias" !

Met with my "Sucias" today. A wonderful group of Latina and non Latina women. Some I know very well, and others I am just getting to know. We read "Dirty Girls Social Club, by Alisa, Valdes-Rodriguez. As a group of mostly Latinas it was a great selection for us.

Some of us consider ourselves, Latina's, Hispanic, Mexican America, White or "Raza" as Lisa said. However we classify ourselves, really doesn't matter to me. One thing I've learned is to embrace our similarities and our differences. We are nurses, teachers, administrators, business owners, intellectuals, wives, mothers, daugthers and friends. We are all women learning, sharing, and growing. I've learned that we aren't gonna like everything about everyone one. My mom is full of advice and wisdom. So like my mom has taught me, "Take what you like and leave the rest".

I am truly enjoying this wonderful time of sharing with other women I would have otherwise never crossed paths with. Can't wait for next month. Life is good!!!

I am super excited that we will have a booth in Harlingen at Jackson Street Market Days. The city has done a wonderful job of collecting a variety of vendors who offer antiques, collectibles, crafts and treat. Over 100 vendors, covering 5 city blocks are expected this Saturday. Attended "Chics with Books" tonight for the second time. We selected "The Unnamed" by Joshua Ferris as our next read. I must confess, I didn't read the first book, actually I never even bought it! I can't really say that I am a reading enthusiast. To be quite honest, I enjoy the conversation and company provided by a group of wonderful women, I otherwise would not have had the pleasure of spending time with. However, I get it! I am supposed to read the book. So somehow within the next month, I will find a way to read the book. Wish me luck!!

Mom's Old Singer

Christmas Eve packed a little surprise when my brother showed up with my mom's old Singer!! I have so many fond memories of her making clothes. She made my first communion dress and even a prom dress on this very machine. I can still remember the rhythmic rocking motion of the foot pedal, matched with her hand quickly turning the wheel. Even though the machine is not longer in use, I am thrilled that it has found its place in my home. I found a spot for the old Singer in my kitchen/back entry way. I just love it and think it fits right in with my old house. Looking forward to enjoying that piece for many years to come.

NEVER give a kid sharpie!!

My dearest Joshua is such a HAM! You think I'd have learned by know, kids shouldn't play with sharpies! I admit, I was knee deep in beads and not paying close attention when he asked me for a sharpie. Having one handy on my craft table, I handed it to him with out a second thought. Surely he was going to sit down and practice writing his ABC's. OH NO, NOT MY JOSHUA! He took the sharpie, to our lovely faux satin Christmas Stockings and added his name, plus Jake & Lilys. He told me that ALL stockings should have names on them. When I finally turned and realized what he had done...my heart just melted. I often strive for the perfect home striving for a beautifully decorated retreat. Joshua made our Christmas decor extra special this year and its a keepsake I will always treasure. I am so grateful that even as he grows and my expectations for him are sometime ridiculously high, he is still a child at heart full of love and faith.

This is another SHARPIE incident a couple years ago when he & his brother decided Joshua should be a Pro-Wrestler. Yes his stomach does say "Mexican" on it. Gotta love 'em!

My JOY is gone...

2009 brought so many dramatic changes in my life. Starting with the creation of JOY Marie's exactly 1 year ago. My sister Yoli & I were able to combine our creative abilities and create an outlet for our skills. The year brought not only growth in our business but a deep growth in our relationship. Yoli's work has led her down a different path as she has relocated to the Hill Country and I feel like my JOY is gone..Its hard to imagine JOY Marie's with out her close at hand. I am going to miss our "Beads & Eats" night when our families joined together to bead and of course to eat. I will miss Vinnie & Gina so much too. I know this move is the best thing for them and I am so proud of Yoli for having the strength and courage to lead her family. Though she is single parent, I know she walks with Christ alone.

My dearest sister, I wish you happiness, I wish you love, I wish you peace. I will miss you terribly and I will miss the JOY of having you around. I can't wait to see what God has in store for you and your Apron Senorita! Love you!

Survived Dias Festivos! I have finally recuperated from our first big show and am very pleased with the experience. I thought I would feel exhausted or bored, but actually had a wonderful time meeting different people and becoming friends with the other vendors. We met some wonderful ladies from Schulenburg, Texas. Met Phil a bead wholesaler from Dallas, and a Olicia from the valley. It was awesome getting to know so many wonderful people!!! I am definitely doing it again next year, armed with more experience and new ideas. My best seller by far-my beaded Pony-O's. I couldn't keep up with those babies!!! Must have sold 50 of those little darlings! Thanks to my family & friends who went for a visit!!!

I did a little Christmas decorating today. Not as much as I would have liked, but I did get my mantle and fireplace decorated. I finally got around to some beading and came up with this lovely earring set. I've had these roses for some time and couldn't find just the right use for them. I think these earrings work perfectly! I find them both festive and romantic.

"Crystal Clusters" is a new design I have come up with for the holidays. They feature a cluster oh highly lustrous crystals, coordinating with the stones. This set combines a chunky turquoise stone, white turquoise pumpkin stones, beautiful bronze crystals, and antiqued silver spacers.

There's No place like home

We are on our family vacation with my in-laws and it has just been wonderful! We flew to Phoenix, headed to Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, and now we are in Souther California. The weather in San Diego is incredible! A very comfy 75 degrees.

I did get to sneak away to one of our wholesalers! (I couldn't come ALL this way and not bring something back for Joy Maries! Oh, and I can't wait to share with you what I found! I will be one busy bee when I get back home. Lots and Lots of beautiful stones, glass pendants and my personal favorites genunie abalone shell pendants in various shapes and sizes!. They are stunning. I can't wait to get home and create some new pieces.
